What do I need to know about botox before booking a treatment?
Botox is a neurotoxin made from the microbes that cause botulism (a kind of food poisoning). But don’t worry, it’s safe if used appropriately by a medical professional.
Botox is most well known as a cosmetic treatment to smooth facial wrinkles by temporarily paralyzing muscles. Medical professional’s also use Botox to treat neuromuscular conditions like migraines, muscle spasms, and hyperhidrosis, a condition characterized by abnormal and excessive sweating.
You may be a candidate for Botox if your sweating fails to improve with prescription antiperspirants. Botox has been FDA-approved for people who sweat excessively from their armpits. It may also be used “off-label” to reduce sweating in other areas, such as the hands, feet, and face.
(Off-label refers to using a medication for something other than what it was approved to treat. In this case, it means that Botox hasn’t gone through the same amount of rigorous testing to confirm its effectiveness and safety for treating excessive sweating in other areas of the body.
Botulinum toxin more commonly referred to as the brand names: Botox®, Azzulure ® and Bocouture® is a prescriptive medication. Nee’s Aesthetics is a medical clinic so you can go through the entire process of having anti-wrinkle injections smoothly and comfortably. The consultation, prescription and treatment are all included in the price advertised. Botulinum takes two weeks to be fully effective and a review appointment is offered so we can see achieved results and administer further injections where necessary.
Please be aware of injectors offering cheap, unprescribed or illegal anti-wrinkle treatments. You should always take precaution and care when choosing your practitioner. It is your face at stake after all.

Are there other botulinum toxin treatments, other than anti-wrinkle?
Botulinum toxin has other great cosmetic and medical uses that aren’t the usual ‘three areas’ as mentioned in the anti-wrinkle injections subheading. It can be used for a droopy nose tip, jelly roll (under the eye), a lip flip, to treat a gummy smile, a down turned smile, a pebbled chin, vertical lip/ smokers lines, masseter reduction for TMJ or jawline slimming, in the platysma bands (neck Nefertiti lift) and for excessive sweating (armpits/ soles of feet, palms of hands).
‘Botox’ injections either paralyse muscles or weaken them for example when it comes to anti-wrinkle injections or some of the treatments mentioned above. When it comes to excessive sweating, it blocks the release of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which binds with your sweat glands to signal the release of sweat.
Normally, your nervous system activates your sweat glands when your body temperature rises. This is how your body automatically cools itself. In people with hyperhidrosis, however, the nerves that signal the sweat glands are overactive. When you receive Botox injections directly into the area of your body that commonly sweats, your overactive nerves are essentially paralyzed. When your nerves can’t signal your sweat glands, you don’t sweat. However, Botox only prevents sweating in the specific area where it’s injected.
How long do anti-wrinkle treatments last?
nti-wrinkle treatments last approximately 3-4 months however each individual is difference and results vary. Some patients feel the muscles are weaker thus the results last longer, returning for top-ups every 6 months whereas patients with more active muscles tend to return every 3-4 months for their treatments as it wears off sooner.
How do you treat fine lines and wrinkles?
Botulinum toxin- a protein. This is a prescription only medication (POM), therefore a consultation is required prior to treatment by myself and my nurse prescriber.
There is 3 types of Botulinum Toxin licensed to use in the UK with the brand names: Boucouture, Azzulure and Botox. At Nee’s Aesthetics we use Botox, made from the pioneers in creating the Medical Aesthetics Market: Allergan.
What are the benefits of dermal filler?
There are several reasons people may get dermal fillers and this could be to reverse the signs of ageing, replace volume loss, correct imbalances, and asymmetry, add structure, hydration and/or definition to an area of the face.
We have dermal filler packages of up to 8ml available bespoke to you and we can treat multiple areas from the list below. Klarna payments and 0% finance options are available (please email) so you can spread the cost.
Areas that can be treated with dermal filler are:
Temples
Deep Static Frown Lines
Nose (Non-surgical rhinoplasty)
Cheeks
Nasolabial Folds
Marionette lines
Lips
Vertical Lip Lines
Teartrough (Under eye hollowing)
Jaw Filler
Chin Filler
Are the treatments painful?
An exceptionally fine needle is used for anti-wrinkle treatments. Most people say that it is painless. Can cause minimal pain at injection point.
Dermal filler treatments can be uncomfortable and slightly painful. In areas where pain is perceived more (for example lips and nasolabial folds), numbing cream is used.
How long will my results last?
Results vary from person to person depending on metabolism and life style factors
The botulinum toxin in anti-wrinkle treatments are effective for roughly 3-4months. Lines that are present at rest will improve gradually if you keep up to date with regular treatments when necessary.
For dermal filler treatments, most results last approximately 6-15 months.
What is a top up?
Two weeks on from your anti-wrinkle treatment, a follow-up review will be required. If further treatment is required or if there is any asymmetry, a top up dose will be administered free of charge.
If treatment results are as expected, then a top-up is not required.
What is hyaluronic acid?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a substance that is naturally present in the human body.
What products do you use?
At Nee’s Aesthetics we only use premium hyaluronic acid dermal filler which is FDA approved (thoroughly researched) and has the CE stamp which means it meets criteria for it to be safely used in Europe.
We use Juvederm, Teosyal & Restylane. If you have specific requests of filler that you would like us to use for your treatments, please inform us in advance so we can get this in stock.
