Vitamin B12 inection
Vitamin B12 is important for the production of our DNA, which is vital for our development and functioning. It also helps produce red blood cells which oxygenate our bodies, so our survival and reproduction is dependent on us getting a sufficient amount of B12.
Our body, unfortunately, does not produce Vitamin B12; however, it can be obtained from foods which contain it naturally or foods that have been fortified with it, such as animal sources (dairy products, eggs, fish, meat, and poultry).
Many people can lack in Vitamin B12, and this is where we step in:
- Older adults struggle to absorb the vitamin due to not having enough hydrochloric acid in their stomachs.
- People with autoimmune disorders also don’t absorb it well.
- Intrinsic factor and hydrochloric acid can lack in people who have had intestinal or abdominal surgeries.
- People with coeliac or Crohn’s disease.
- People who are vegan/vegetarians or eat little to no animal foods don’t get much Vitamin B12 from their diets.
Vitamin B12 (hydroxocobalamin) is injected into the thickest part of the deltoid muscle (upper arm) and is absorbed much better by the body as it diffuses across the muscle, so not a huge amount of product is wasted in comparison to oral supplements that have to go through the digestive system first. They are also great for an energy boost from a well-being approach. A course of weekly injections is recommended to start with and then one injection every 12 weeks as maintenance.
Vitamin B12 can assist with:
- Metabolism
- Insomnia
- Fatigue
- Mental clarity
- Weight loss
- Energy levels
- Concentration
